  8. Meg Cullen says:

Phil – she moved to Florida and went to a Florida school. But that’s okay – it was you.

  9. Meg Cullen says:

Harry Huff and I were in home economics together in 8th grade. We made an orange cake made to look like a basketball. I still have the pic and his obit. He was a goofball! loved that guy. He rode my bus every day and we sat together. We sat together the afternoon before the night that he died. I can still see his smiling face. It was my first wake – Mark took me. Same funeral home for Mark so many years later.

  10. Meg Cullen says:

Tony Yates was a good friend of mine in High School. I remember he got a lot of flack – little skinny kid, etc. Neither of us were in the “popular” sect – I enjoyed his company and remember reading the obit and feeling sad – dying so young.

    • Phil Attey says:

I remember that too, Meg, and I’m ashamed that I wasn’t strong enough then to come out and to stand up for him.

If it helps, I imagine Tony was looking down on us this weekend, smiling at how much his classmates have grown since high school to accept LGBT people. I know for me, it was really touching to hear some of the guys who were the most homophobic of our class reach out to let me know they knew I was gay and were cool with it.

I believe Tony would be proud of them.

      • Meg Cullen says:

Gee – thanks for putting such a flattering pic up of me.. I meant to ask you this weekend and forgot – when you were in college – wasn’t it you who showed someone your yearbook and she pointed me out and said we grew up together in Ct., – Leslie Wolfson – or am I thinking of someone else…
